Anniversary Card - I Need Some Space from Kindred Stamps

 Good morning, lovelies!  My husband and I will be celebrating our first anniversary this weekend (I can't believe it has already been a year!) and I wanted to share his anniversary card.  

Of course, nothing about our wedding day went according to plans (Thanks, Covid!).  We had to reschedule a few times, and finally decided to just do it... and then the weather didn't cooperate, so while it was nothing like we had expected, it was lovely!  

One of our favorite Saturday night activities was watching Dr. Who, so when I saw this stamp set, I HAD to have it!  I had to restrain myself from jumping in and making cards with it, as I wanted to use it for our anniversary. 

I stamped my images and cut them out (I cheated by stamping a full sheet of images and using my Scan 'n Cut to make it quick).  I then grabbed my Copics and set about coloring the images.  

I wanted to make a fairly simple card, so I grabbed my Galactic Paper Pack from Kindred Stamps and chose this fantastic background pattern and trimmed it to size.  I layered it on some silver and navy card stock panels and adhered it to my card base.  

I embossed my sentiment on a strip of navy card stock and used the strip to ground my images.  Lastly, I popped up the "call box" (you know what it really is) using foam tape.

August Sketch Challenge - Megan's Papercraft Treasures

 Good morning, lovelies!  Today, I am excited to share my Design Team card for the August Sketch Challenge at Megan's Papercraft Treasures.

Megan's provided two sketches: a scrapbook layout and a card layout.  I'm not much of a scrapbooker, so I was excited to play with the card sketch!  

I started with a 5 1/2" x 11" card base of 110# white card stock and scored at 5 1/2".  I cut an additional panel of Pool Party to 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" and adhered it to my card. 

Because I don't have any good stitched dies (and let's be real... I am too lazy to bring out the sewing machine), I wrapped linen thread around the center of a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" panel of patterned paper and adhered it to my card base.  

I die-cut two hearts from Roccocco Rose and Pool Party card stock and set about to arranging my elements.  Once I had attached the hearts to the card front, I added the chipboard bird house using wet glue and added the little bird to the front.  I tied a loopy bow from the linen thread and also glued it down, and added the flower clusters.  

For my sentiment, I die-cut a strip of Roccocco Rose and embossed the sentiment in Antique Rose Gold.  I popped the sentiment up using a double layer of foam tape so that it would fit over the bird house stake.  

I really loved working with this sketch!  It forced me to think outside the box a bit, and I had a lot of fun!  This is not a color combination that I would have thought to use, but against the patterned paper, I think it turned out quite lovely!

Masking Unleashed - AECP Level 2

 Hello world!  I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  Today, I am sharing the project that I made for my final Level 2 course in the Altenew Educator Certification Program - Masking Unleashed. 

I'm not going to lie... this class was challenging for me.  I am not a fan of masking, as it is so much work.  That being said, this course was FULL of techniques for masking, some that I was completely unfamiliar with.  I may have been living under a rock, but I didn't know that masking fluid was a thing.  Needless to say, I had to order some to try it out! 

For my project, I used traditional masking - with a stamped image on copy paper that I fussy cut.  (This is the part of masking that I dislike, as I am terrible at fussy cutting.)  The good news is that for masking, you don't have to be great at it.  

To begin, I stamped the images I planned to use on plain white copy paper and cut them out, INSIDE the stamped lines, but just barely.  This will ensure that when you stamp another image over the masked image, you will not be left with a line because the mask is slightly raised. I then stamped the outline of the image that I wanted in the foreground, followed by the subsequent layers.  I adhered my mask using removable adhesive and stamped the leaves and then moved on to my second image.  I repeated this process one last time to add my third flower and leaves.  

Once I was happy with my flowers, I masked them off and blended my background using Distress Oxide Ink.  I was not overly careful with my ink blending, as I wanted to create the appearance of some texture and it softened the intensity of the flowers.  Once I was happy with the background, I added some water splatters.  I love how the Distress Oxide Ink reacts to water.  It is pretty magical to watch!  I then added some purple metallic splatters.  

To create a layer behind my card panel, I ink blended the edges of a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of card stock with the same purple I used in the irises.  I trimmed down the card panel to 5 1/8" x 3 7/8" and adhered it to the purple panel.  I then attached the panel to my card base. 

To complete my card, I embossed my sentiment on a black strip of card stock and adhered it, followed by some Dew Drop embellishments. 

I don't know about you, but I love everything about this card!  I had to force myself to stop stamping the irises.  This may be my new favorite stamp set.  This was definitely a labor of love, but well worth it.
